Fishing at Chaumeçon lake
Set in unspoilt natural surroundings, Chaumeçon is a well-balanced lake where every species deserves to be caught.
Carnivorous fish
This lake is renowned for its good predator population.
Pike-perch, perch and pike find all the right habitats here for their life cycles. Reproduction is favoured by the lake's high tidal range, which firstly allows vegetation to grow in the lake enclosure and secondly allows the grassy areas to be flooded at spawning time.
Chaumeçon is also well stocked with white fish and carp.
Launching spots around the lake
When the lake is at its highest, 3 boat launches are available: one at the end of the chemin de Vaussegroix on the right bank, one at Porcmignon on the left bank, and one at the end of the lake, near the hand-fishing pontoon. The latter is no longer usable as the water level drops when the lake is de-stocked.
Only electric motors are now authorised!
Once your boat is in the water, make sure you park your car properly so as not to hinder other anglers wanting to use the boat ramp. The access roads are quite narrow!

Techniques that work
The paddle lead technique gives excellent results when they are more active. The animation consists of fairly dry upward shots. The special lead twirls and drags the rig (which can be coupled with a plastic lure) in random directions thanks to its flattened shape. Perch are very sensitive to this.
For pike-perch, trolling, fishing with soft lures (small shads) and the more static technique of fishing with livebait form the top three of the most effective methods on Chaumeçon.
Pike are plentiful in all the bays and other slightly shallower areas. The lake's high tidal range means that there are good areas of grass beds for breeding.
Look for them with swimming fish (rapala type) or with a dead hand with a more gliding mount!
Carps
Despite the absence of a night fishing sector, carp anglers who try this lake during the day are delighted. The carp are in fact less solicited and therefore less wary than on other lakes. Most of the fish are in the 10kg range, but as the lake hasn't been emptied for nearly 30 years, there are plenty of big fish around.
