Pierre à Boron

Stroll through the many Christmas tree plantations. The commune is one of the biggest Christmas tree growers in the Morvan. But the theme of the walk is the Pierre à Boron in the hamlet of the same name, whose legend goes like this: A very pious woman lived with her son in a hut next to this stone.

Every day, she stopped to pray before the stone. On Palm Sunday, as she was praying, a winged serpent (the Vouivre) passed in front of her. The stone and the trees shook, and then the stone opened up, revealing a cave full of riches. The woman entered, laid her child on a barrel and began to take home all the gold she could. When she returned to the stone to take more riches, it had closed, imprisoning the child. The young woman threw all the gold into the nettles and came every day to pray before the stone. A year later, the stone reopened and the woman was able to get her child back. When the stone closed again, the winged serpent passed in front of the young woman once more. For a mother, all the gold in the world is not worth her child.
