Visit Bazoches Castle
The feudal castle of Bazoches, built in the 12th century, stands mid-slope on a wooded hill on the site of an ancient Roman post, in direct sight of Vézelay. It was acquired in 1675 by Marshal de Vauban thanks to a bonus granted to him by Louis XIV. As soon as he moved in, Vauban carried out a number of alterations and transformed it into a military garrison. His descendants and current owners have carefully preserved many souvenirs of their illustrious ancestor, including his armour, bedroom, study and library.
