Circuit de randonnée : Boucle du flottage

Your tour starts at the tourist office, but this building was once called the Engineers' House and the Guard's House because it housed the project managers and then the person in charge of monitoring the slightest movement of the dam. Take a look at the latter: 271 m long and 20 m high. It was built to regulate the Cure, a tributary of the Yonne, a tributary of the Seine, in order to control the flooding of Paris and to allow the floating of the Morvan wood which heated the homes of the capital for nearly 300 years.
When you arrive near Gouloux, you will have the choice of continuing on your way or making a diversion to visit the Marchand shoe factory and the mythical waterfall of the Morvan: the Gouloux jump. In the second part of your tour, you will pass the hamlets of Nataloup, Palmaroux and Champgazon, which were once floating ports where wood was piled up before being thrown into the water. Your return journey takes you through the Cure valley, an area classified as Natura 2000 for its marshy and paratourbous meadows.
